Klondike is the version most people know: build four foundations from Ace to King by suit, and arrange the tableau in descending order with alternating colours. Spider uses two decks and asks you to build complete suits from King down to Ace. FreeCell gives you four free cells for temporary storage and is famous because nearly every deal is solvable with careful thought. Pyramid and TriPeaks are faster games where you clear cards in pairs or sequences.
A few tips work for almost every variant. Uncover face-down cards as early as possible, since hidden cards are what block progress. Don't rush to empty a column unless you have a King (or a useful card) ready to place there. And use undo freely – solitaire is about exploring options.
