Memory Test
About Memory Test
Memory Test is a quick, free online memory game made by PuzzlePlay. Instead of one long quiz, it gives you three short tests that each work a different kind of memory: Color Recall checks how well you remember an exact shade – either by picking it out from a set of similar swatches or by rebuilding it on a color picker –, Spot Recall checks spatial memory for positions, and Time Sense checks how accurately you can feel and repeat a duration.
Every round shows you a target for a few seconds, hides it, and then asks you to rebuild it from memory. Your answer is compared with the original and scored from 0 to 100 based on how close you were – a color is measured by perceptual color difference (in Pick the Swatch, the right swatch scores 100 and a near-miss still earns partial credit), dots by how far each tap lands from its real spot, and time by the percentage you were off. Five rounds make one test, and the result is the average.
The Daily Challenge mixes two rounds of each test – its color rounds always use Pick the Swatch – generated from today's date, so everyone who plays on the same day gets the same targets. Your best scores are saved in your browser, and you can copy a short result card to share with friends. The scores describe your own accuracy in that run; they are not compared with other players or turned into percentiles.
How to Play Memory Test
- Choose Color Recall, Spot Recall, Time Sense or the Daily Challenge from the menu. For Color Recall, also pick an answer style: Pick the Swatch (easy) or Color Picker (precise). Your last choice is remembered.
- Watch the target carefully while the countdown bar runs out – a color swatch, a set of dots, or a filling bar.
- Pick the Swatch: tap the shade you saw from a grid of 6–9 similar colors. Each round adds options and the shades get closer together.
- Color Picker: drag on the square pad to set saturation (left–right) and brightness (up–down), slide the rainbow bar to set the hue, then press Submit or Enter.
- Spot Recall: tap the board where each dot was; on a keyboard, move the dashed cursor with the arrow keys and press Enter.
- Time Sense: press and hold the button (or the Space bar) for as long as the bar took to fill, then release.
Memory Test Tips & Tricks
- In Pick the Swatch, first rule out shades with the wrong hue, then compare how light or dark the remaining ones are – brightness is usually the easiest difference to spot.
- In Color Picker, set the hue bar first, then place the knob on the pad; small hue errors cost more points than small saturation errors.
- In Spot Recall, link the dots to the board's edges and corners ('just left of centre, near the top') rather than trying to picture the whole board.
- For Time Sense, avoid counting out loud; tap a steady rhythm with your foot while the bar fills and repeat the same number of beats while holding.
Memory Test FAQ
What's the difference between Pick the Swatch and Color Picker?
Pick the Swatch is the easier style: you choose the original color from 6–9 similar shades. Color Picker is the precise style: you rebuild the color yourself on a saturation/brightness pad and a hue bar. Best scores are saved separately for each style.
How is the Memory Test score calculated?
Each round is scored 0–100 by closeness. In Pick the Swatch the correct swatch scores 100 and a wrong pick earns partial credit if it was a similar shade; Color Picker is scored by perceptual color difference; Spot Recall by distance from the real positions; Time Sense by percentage error. Your final score is the average of all rounds.
Is the Daily Challenge the same for everyone?
Yes. Targets are generated from the date, and the color rounds always use Pick the Swatch with the same options, so every player on the same day gets the same puzzles. It contains two rounds of each test.
Does Memory Test save my scores?
Your best scores, daily result and preferred color answer style are stored locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so clearing browser data or switching devices resets them.
Can I play with a keyboard?
Yes. Use arrow keys and Enter in menus; in Pick the Swatch press 1–9 or move with arrows; in Color Picker the arrows move the pad knob or hue (hold Shift for bigger steps); in Spot Recall arrows move the cursor; in Time Sense hold the Space bar.
